Southern comfort at its finest. Flaky buttermilk biscuits smothered in a rich, peppery sausage gravy. This is the kind of breakfast that makes people drive long distances.

Ingredients

For biscuits

·2 cups flour, 1 tbsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt
·6 tbsp cold butter cubed
·3/4 cup cold buttermilk

For gravy

·1/2 lb breakfast sausage
·3 tbsp flour
·2 cups whole milk
·Salt and lots of black pepper

Instructions

1.Cut butter into flour mixture until pea-sized. Add buttermilk, mix until shaggy.
2.Pat out 3/4 inch thick, cut rounds, bake at 450°F for 12-14 minutes.
3.Brown sausage in skillet, breaking apart. Do not drain the fat.
4.Sprinkle flour over sausage and stir 2 minutes.
5.Add milk gradually, stirring constantly until thick.
6.Season aggressively with pepper. Pour over split biscuits.
